At Casa Cody on Cahuilla, the oldest operating hotel in Palm Springs has quietly pivoted its bar toward residents. Harriet's Bar and Lounge at 175 S. Cahuilla Road previously catered mainly to hotel guests, but has been trying to draw in more locals, offering an all-day menu with sandwiches, flatbreads and salads alongside an extensive specialty cocktail menu.
The rooms that opened last year have settled into their identities. Beaton's at Bar Cecil, next door to the MICHELIN-recommended Bar Cecil, runs Wednesday through Sunday until midnight, with a late-night menu after 9pm that includes a bar burger or filet mignon. Bar Issi, inside the Thompson hotel complex on the north end of downtown, leans into a maximalist décor concept with craft cocktails and Italian-inspired cuisine, and has become a hotspot for locals and travelers alike. Liv's, tucked into the lower level of the Palm Springs Art Museum, serves breakfast and lunch with outdoor tables next to the sculpture-garden fountain, and is operated by Bar Cecil chef Gabriel Woo.
For a resident who is at home in the mornings, the smaller openings matter more than the marquee ones. Coffeeism Co. is a downtown café pulling shots of Intelligentsia espresso, with a single-origin daily drip program and a rotating menu of iced coffee drinks with ingredients like passion fruit and prickly pear, open daily 6am to 4pm. Off Palm Canyon and away from the visitor traffic, Bougainvillea Fresh Cuisine, in a Warm Sands strip mall, draws from Latin and Mediterranean traditions with reservations recommended by phone, open daily for dinner and Tuesday through Saturday for lunch. Ash & Vine, set in a vine-covered historical building with a hidden courtyard, delivers seasonal California cuisine with subtle global influences.
